The EU recognises the importance of cross-border business and internationalisation, and to this effect has created the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), considered to be one of the best-positioned networks to help SMEs take operations to a higher level. The local consortium comprises Malta Enterprise, Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry, the Malta Business Bureau and the Malta Council for Science and Technology. Each organisation pooled resources and expertise to create a consolidate service to the local business community. The consortium forms part of the international network made up of over 600 support business organisations in all regions of the EU and also present in other key global markets beyond European peripheries. Through the network, local SMEs are now increasingly connected, having access to information ranging from internationalisation opportunities of their business, lobbying on EU policy, bidding for international tenders and having the facilitated means to get expert advise on what they need.
