Public Discussion on fairness and transparency for business users of online services

Over the last few decades, the number of platforms-to-business has increased dramatically, with web giants such as Amazon, Facebook and Google playing an important role in facilitating the creation and development of market opportunities. However, online platforms also raise new policy and regulatory challenges, which may cause significant economic harm to the business companies that use these platforms.

In view of this, and as part of its Digital Single Market initiatives, the European Commission proposed an EU Regulation on fairness and transparency in online platform trading intending to safeguard a fair, transparent and predictable business environment for businesses and traders when using online platforms to reach their international and local clients.

In this context, MBB and the European Parliament Information Office in Malta will be organising a public discussion on the European Commission proposal for a regulation on fairness and transparency for business users of online intermediation services.

The aim of this event is to enable an exchange of views on the measures being proposed together with relevant stakeholders and MEP Francis Zammit Dimech, who, as the JURI Committee Rapporteur of the proposed regulation, is drafting the JURI opinion on this file in the coming weeks. This will be then voted in the JURI Committee in November.
